2009 In Warm Springs - A Look Back
It was a Great Day!!
After over a year of planning, and thousands of hours by hundreds of volunteers, the annual Fremont 4th of July Parade, recently held on Saturday, July 4, 2009 was by all accounts a huge success. The weather stayed cool and mild during the morning set-up as 90 entries poured into the staging area on Whitney Place. Then the clouds cleared and blue skies were present for the start of the parade at exactly 10:00am.
The parade route was lined by thousands of spectators, with perhaps the farthest coming from Denmark! VIPs, giant balloons, floats, bands, performers, and scores of other entries traveled the 1 mile route in about 2 hours. The only hiccup in the process seemed to be the pacing, as large and short gaps between entries emerged as the giant balloons were maneuvered under low hanging electric wires, causing some delays. But determined volunteers managed the process without incident, as the spectators cheered their efforts.
After the parade concluded, the 'Springs Fest' after event provided entertainment and food for the throngs of people that stayed, while the judges were sequestered to compile the votes and announce the winning entries (check out all of the winners on the Entries page)
The steering committee wishes to thank all of the volunteers who worked tirelessly for many months to make this event such a success, as well as thank the many sponsors, donors and entrants who contributed so generously.
Join us next year as the parade moves to the Mission San Jose District.
